Wando is the in the far southern part of the Korean peninsula, at the southeast corner of South Jeolla province. It consists of 265 islands of various sizes, 210 being uninhabited. Wando is a coastal and rural area with a population of less than 55,000 at the time of writing this guide (Dec.2022).
Wando is mostly islands and its territory borders mainland counties northwest-to-northeast: Haenam, Gangjin, Jangheung, and Goheung. The county’s territory is further divided into 12 administrative townships.
Wando Towns and Townships
The following are the 3 towns of Wando: Geumil-Eup, Nohwa-Eup, and Wando-Eup. The remaining 9 townships: Bogil-Myeon, Chungsan-Myeon, Geumdang-Myeon, Gogeum-Myeon, Gunwae-Myeon, Saengil-Myeon, Shinji-Myeon, Soan-Myeon, and Yaksan-Myeon.
